In Scotland, forty three years ago, I bought a derelict, condemned building in Newbattle near Edinburgh. It was made up of two adjoining cottages that were three hundred years old, it stood on an acre of land measured off from a sheep field, after the building had been built in the autumn of 1960.

This was to become my studio, workshop, and living quarters which I dedicated in living memory of my native homeland. I firstly had to remove the old roofs and gut the inside of the building. Various tradesmen and helpers came and went but a lot of the work I did myself and so made a home for our family.

Cottages, old smithy and sheep shed in 1960.   The front view from the road as the house looks today.

Due to the large number of pictures, the Building section has been split into two pages.
